Myelin My Shoes is more than just a book. It’s a beat-driven journey that started long before I ever picked up a pen. I didn’t set out to write a memoir. I set out to survive. And survival, for me, always started with music.
Long before I was an author, I was in the studio, on stages, in green rooms, pushing burned CDs and chasing that next tour stop. I built my life on raw honesty, rhythm, and resilience. And when multiple sclerosis tried to pull the plug on all of that, I found another mic. One made of paper, ink, and memories I wasn’t sure I could even face.
Music taught me how to structure chaos. It showed me how to break silence with rhythm. Writing this book felt like laying a verse over a beat that was still forming. I approached chapters like tracks. Some came out smooth. Others hit hard. A few almost didn’t make the cut.
But the bars were still there. They just looked different.
Being a rapper made me a better writer. I had already learned how to punch emotion into a single line, how to build flow, and how to share the uncomfortable truth without flinching. That made writing Myelin My Shoes possible. It also made it real. And it’s why this book doesn’t pull any punches.
The soundtrack that goes with the memoir isn’t some marketing gimmick. It’s the sound of my life at full volume. I dropped it on vinyl because that’s how real it is to me. Music isn’t a background element in this story. It is the story.
And now I’m working on something new. A song entirely focused on living with MS. It’s not finished yet. This one is taking time. But the beat is gritty. The lyrics are heavy. And it might be the most personal thing I’ve ever recorded.
The book was the beginning. The soundtrack is the vibe. What’s coming next might be the hardest thing I’ve ever written.
